Christmas in Edmonton, 2026

The holiday season in Edmonton runs from the first parade in November through the last light display in early January. Light walks, Santa Claus parades, Christmas festivals and pancakes with the big guy himself: there's something on nearly every weekend, indoors and out.

New events go up all season, so bookmark the Edmonton Family Events Calendar for this year's dates and times.

Holiday Lights Experiences in Edmonton

Tree lightings, drive-through displays and walk-through light trails. Some are one-night countdown events with music and hot chocolate; others run nightly for weeks, so you can pick a mild evening and go when it suits you. Drive-through displays are the easy call with toddlers or on the coldest nights.

Santa Claus Parades

Edmonton and the surrounding towns each run their own parade, with floats, marching bands and Santa bringing up the rear. They're free to watch and usually fall in late November and early December. Claim a curb spot early, and bring blankets and a thermos.

Christmas Festivals

Weekend festivals with markets, crafts, visits with Santa, wagon rides and live entertainment, often at historic sites and community halls. Most are a mix of free and ticketed activities, so check what's included before you go.

Breakfast with Santa

Pancakes, crafts and a photo with Santa, usually in the morning on December weekends. Seating is limited and the popular ones sell out early, so book as soon as tickets open. Bring your own camera for the photo unless the event says otherwise.

Holiday Events

Santa skates, holiday swims, craft afternoons and the one-off events that don't fit a parade route or a breakfast table. Many are free, run by the City and surrounding counties, and land on December weekends and over winter break.

Planning Tips

Dress for standing still, not walking: parades and light-ups mean long stretches outside. Book breakfasts and timed light walks early. And keep an indoor option ready for the night it hits minus thirty.
